Superwinch LP10000 that you have on offer

8 ton swing snatch

Superwinch wiring kit

Isolation kit

As I see it that is all I would need to fit winch to my Defender XS 2007 but if you could confirm I have selected the right parts I will place my order.

A:

Yes, the Superwinch LP10,000 will fit the Terrafirma bumper stated. The 8 ton snatch block is a good choice. You DON’T need the Superwinch wiring kit as this is for towball mounted small winches, and instead of the isolation kit, you need the 2 x 3m battery extension leads. This comes with an isolation switch but also means you have long enough battery leads to go from the winch to the Defender battery located under the passenger seat.

The battery extension leads can be found here:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winch-accessories/electrical/2-x-3m-battery-extension-leads.html

Hope this helps.

I bought a Warrior winch recently but it was not supplied with a mounting plate. Do you know of any mounting plates which are a universal fit - to suit any winch?

A: Sure, no problem.

The popular winch plate would be the one that suits the majority of electric winches on the market from 6000 lbs upto 15000 lbs.

Up to 15000lb
The plate is 600mm x 235mm with a 60mm fold to the rear edge and a 45mm fold to the front edge - increasing to 105mm for the fairlead mounting. This plate suits fairleads with hole centre of 255mm and is manufactured from 5mm steel before being finished in dark grey.
This is designed for winches with foot mounting of 254mm x 114mm - but you always have the option of drilling additional mounting holes if required.

Also includes raised sections of the plate so that the winch mounting bolt heads are flush with the underside of the plate so it can easily be bolted or welded down to a flat surface. This pattern is the same used by CTA, Champion, King One, Superwinch, Warn Wiches etc.

To see or buy this winch mounting plate CLICK HERE

If you should have one of the Short drum winches such as the Warrior / Champion C9500SD winches, you would require a different winch mounting plate.

9500SD

The plate is 600mm x 180mm with a 50mm fold to the rear edge and a 35mm fold to the front edge - increasing to 90mm for the fairlead mounting

This plate suits fairleads with hole centre of 180mm and is manufactured from 5mm steel before being finished in dark grey.

This is specifically designed for the 9500SD with foot mounting of 151mm x 114.3mm - but you always have the option of drilling additional mounting holes if required.

<![endif]-->The winch bumper is correct, but you’re way off on the winch!!! That’s a 3500 lb winch more designed for quad bikes or trailers for light use etc.

For a Defender we recommend winches from 8000 lbs capacity upto 12000 lbs capacity.

Take a look at the following winches:

Warrior C8000EWX, C9500EWX and C12000EWX
or
Superwinch Talon 9.5

These would be more suited for the Defender.

If you wanted the synthetic rope, we can do the Talon with the synth rope and we also do a Warrior C9500HS with is a high speed winch with a synthetic rope too.

Check out these links:

This will have a few options for you along with the Warrior models mentioned above:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/champion.html?cat=279

And the Superwinch options:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/superwinch.html?wh_capacity=133&wh_voltage=141

Ignore any short drum winches, these won’t suit the bumper. I hope all this helps. If you would prefer to speak to someone contact:

<![endif]-->I am thinking of buying the above winch and fitting it to the towbar
on my hilux mk6, is this suitable for and do I require any
thing else for this?

A: Yes, you can fit this to your towbar, but you would need the towball mount plate:

http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/mounting-plates/towballplates/bak-rak-small-towbar-mount.html

The Superwinch Terra winch is more designed for permanent mounting and are more suited to quad bikes as they have a separate block etc. I would of recommended a Warrior C3500A 12v winch instead which has the solenoid mounted on the winch itself and is currently on special offer with free wireless remotes. You get a lot more and it’s a lot less cost, and it’s more suited for a towball mount system.

See this winch here: http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c3500-a-12v-winch.html

You would then need a way of connecting this to the vehicle battery, or use a separate battery near the towball area. Some people take the battery extension cables and the snap connectors found in the ‘electrical’ section of the Electric Winch Shop website, basically so you can just quickly connect to power up to the winch.

However, our comparable product is our CTA 12v winch.

We’re doing some great deals on these including mini package deal options including winch covers and winch mounting plates. It’s well worth keeping an eye on the website as the new photos and specs for the updated 2012 model of CTA will be appearing soon.

The CTA winches are now supplied with TWO wireless remotes and a wired remote, roller fairlead, isolator switch, 5.5 ton capacity, sealed solenoid / contactors, free spool gearbox, galvanised winch rope with hook, mounting bolts and instructions.

It’s a supurb deal, and our prices simply can’t be beaten!

The problem you’ll have is that you only need a light duty winch for the job, but all the small winches only have small rope drums on and so can only take between 12 and 18 meters of cable. In order to get more winch rope on to achieve your 30m of pull, you would have to consider the smallest of the bigger drum winches which would be the Champion C6000S:

http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/champion/champion-c6000s-12v-winch.html

There are line speeds on the specification. The speed varies depending on the load on the winch, the heavier the load the slower the winch pulls in.

So to compare Superwinch to the Warn winches I would say you’re not going to go far wrong with either. They are both industry leading brands and the biggest names in the winch industry. Both have been extensively tried and tested.

Warn will hurt your pocket a lot more than the Superwinch though!

You should really first decide what job your winch is doing and how often you’re using it, what capacity you need and what budget you have to work on. Then you will find it a lot easier to narrow your winch options.

12000 lbs capacity is pretty much 5.5 ton so the capacity is high, but as for the build quality? I couldn’t comment i’m afraid. I’d personally stick to a well known brand. Take a look here at 12000 lb winches:

This is a fantastic looking winch as well as being one of the current market leading winches. You can see it or buy it online here:

This will fit into the Terrafirma winch bumper if you buy the TF001S bumper as this has been slightly modified to take the longer body of the Talon winches.Again, if you need this, you can order over the phone or email:

<![endif]-->Question:

i want to know if you can supply me with a remote hand set the make is lodar 8622 if not what do you advise inc cost thank you

Answer:

If you need just a replacement handset for the Lodar 8622 it would be - £80 +vat but we would need the serial number so the handset can be made up to suit it by Lodar.

If you need the handset and the receiver to go with it, the Lodar 8622 has been replaced with the Lodar 9000, we have plenty of these in stock and can be bought online here:

http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winch-accessories/hand-controls/lodar-remote.html

I hope this helps.

Quad bike Winch advice

Question:

Hi, Do you have suitable mounting plates in stock?
Plus what deals can you offer for a suitable winch for my Honda?
Probably a 2500 or 3500 winch.
Would like handlebar rocker button and wired remote if possible.

Answer:

On the winch front I would recommend either the Superwinch Terra 25 or 35 winches. These are available with either steel or synthetic ropes, see the following links:

Terra 25, steel rope:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/superwinch/superwinch-terra-25-12v-winch.html

Terra 25, synthetic rope:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/superwinch/superwinch-terra-25-12v-winch-synthetic-rope.html

Terra 35, steel rope:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/superwinch/superwinch-terra-35-12v-winch.html

Terra 35, synthetic rope:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winches/superwinch/superwinch-terra-35-12v-winch-synthetic-rope.html

Alternatively, we have the Champion / Warrior C2500A and C3500A which are supplied with steel ropes:

Champion / Warrior C2500A:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c2500-a-12v-winch.html

Champion / Warrior C3500A:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c3500-a-12v-winch.html

or the Champion / Warrior C2500 XT or C3500 XT synthetic rope winches.

Champion / Warrior C2500 XT:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/cp00034.html

Champion / Warrior C3500 XT:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/cp00035.html

All the above have handlebar rocker switches included apart from the steel rope Champion / Warrior winches where we can simply swap the wired handset for the rocker switch on request at no extra cost.

As for the winch mount plate we can offer the following:
Honda TRX400 rancher -04 to -07
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/atv-kit-honda-see-product-guide-for-vehicles-this-kit-fits-1931.html

or Honda TRX400 4x4 -95 to -01
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/atv-kit-honda-see-product-guide-for-vehicles-this-kit-fits-1935.html

Not sure which one of these you need for your quad. These are currently out of stock and come from USA, so please allow 4 weeks for delivery on the quad winch mounting plates!

<![endif]-->You actually have to do a bit of trimming of the grill for both these, however instead of the FF50 we actually do a FF118 which is a modified version of this that has been designed to take the winch without trimming the grill. There’s a little more work in the manufacture of these and so the cost is a little higher than the FF50.

Cost - £349.81 +vat

For only relatively light boats and trailer, you only need one of the small Champion (Warrior) winches, you can choose any of the following although I’d always suggest getting the largest capacity winch out of these in your budget. The theory being the larger the capacity, the less hard your winch is working and the longer it’ll last. So, I would consider one of the following three winches:

C2000A 12v:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c2000-a-12v-winch.html

C2500A 12v:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c2500-a-12v-winch.html

C3500A 12v:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c3500-a-12v-winch.html

Then you would need to buy the towball mounted winch plate:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/mounting-plates/towballplates/bak-rak-small-towbar-mount.html

In order to get power to the winch you would either need a separate battery near your towball to connect the winch electrics upto or you would need to run a set of battery cables to the towball area and crimp on a snap connector with the mating part of the snap connector on the winch battery leads so that when you mount your winch onto the towball you can then just snap the connectors together and you’re good to go!

We do the battery leads 3m long as standard so you would just have to check to see if these are long enough for your vehicle, if not you can source these for most electrical trade shops to whatever length you need. The Champion C6000s looks like it could do the job, but I have questions:

How do I determine the safe load to put on a towbar in the first place? Is there a sensible alternative?

If it is pulling say a 1000lb log up a slope (using a ‘sledge’ to help it slide) pulling maybe 10m at 2mps, thats a five minute pull! How should a car battery cope with such useage, or am I in cloud cuckoo land?

If the log gets snagged, does a safety mechanism stop the system self-destructing?

Answer:

Towbars are usually rated at 3500 Kg so I would suggest nothing more powerful than a 8000 lb capacity winch. Saying this you’re only pulling 1000 lbs so I’d suggest just getting a C3500A 12v winch and a small bakrak towball mount. This should do the trick no problem.

You’d probably also need a set of battery extension cables to run from your 4x4 battery to the towball area and the a set of snap connectors to easily be able to connect the power to the winch battery leads. Hope this makes sense. It’s a very common application we’ve done many times.

These are the parts you would need:

Champion C3500A 12v winch:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c3500-a-12v-winch.html

Towball Bak Rak to suit this winch:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/mounting-plates/towballplates/bak-rak-small-towbar-mount.html

Battery extension leads:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winch-accessories/electrical/2-x-3m-battery-extension-leads.html

Snap Connectors:
http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/winch-accessories/electrical/400-amp-snap-connectors.html

I am after a winch to mount on a Nissan Cabstar pickup suitable for winching up compact tractors which weigh 1 ton. It would need to be 12 volts and have a cable length of about 6 mtr.

Answer:

Many thanks for your valued enquiry. Looking at your requirement I would suggest something like the Champion C8000EWX 12v winch. These are a very capable winch at a very reasonable price. It comes with a stainless steel roller fairlead, wired AND wireless remote controls, double sealed motor and gearbox and 8000 lbs (3600 Kg) of pulling capacity.

For more information on this winch see it on our website here:

http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/champion-c8000-ewx-12v-winch.html

The winch mounting plate you would need for this can be seen here:

http://www.electricwinchshop.co.uk/mounting-plates/std-plates/winch-mounting-plate-up-to-15000lb-winches.html

CHAMPION Winches are in the process of changing their name to WARRIOR WINCHES.

There is obviously an overlap of winches having the usual ‘Champion’ branding as stock depletes and gets replaced with ‘Warrior’ winch branding. The winches however, are exactly the same. It’s just the nameplates and boxes that are changing.

These will still be available through www.electricwinchshop.co.uk

The reasoning behind Champion changing their name to Warrior is as follows should you be interested:

The Champion winches are now a worldwide brand and sold overseas in N. America and Canada as ‘Warrior Winches’ having two different brand names for the winches just isn’t convenient as often ‘Champion’ stock from the UK can be sent overseas to the USA and Canada market to help out with stock. So from this point of view all winches need to be branded the same and so the brand ‘Warrior’ for the Champion winches will be introduced in the UK to make it one global brand.

For Champion winches here in the UK it will be “business as normal” and all the winches going from Champion to Warrior will be readily available from the ELECTRIC WINCH SHOP

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the rebranding of the Champion winches to Warrior winches please don’t hesitate to call us on 01274 680744 or email: sales@autoliftuk.com
